I'm still reuploading a lot of stuff, thank you for your patience!

Location: Tempest Stage

Eichi: ...That was the plan, at least.

I had even laid the groundwork with the local residents and businesses. And yet, everything resulted in that unparalleled explosion: BIGBANG.

It was a grand affair, but if one were to only look at the expenditures, it would be considered a failure.

And thus, all the money I had set aside to use in business investments flew away, scattering like petals in the sky.

I’m sure everyone was delighted, but based solely on its outcome, it was a flagrantly poor use — or, rather, waste — of money.

It did bring us into the public eye, but... I do wish they’d use our limited funds with more prudence.

As a result of their actions, we were at quite the severe disadvantage; we had to organize this Tempest Fest on a tight budget...

And I hadn’t planned for dealing with extra restrictions, so the funding for this affair has more or less come out of my own pocket.

Tori: I told you we shouldn’t have let them handle such an important task! Those guys are like jack-in-a-boxes...

Have they ever behaved like we expected them to?

Eichi: Well, though I certainly can’t say they have, they did produce results that were far and beyond my expectations on multiple occasions.

And the truth is, the aftershocks of BIGBANG are still spreading throughout the land, breaking new ground for flowers to bloom in.

The world of adults operates on the rule that one must behave as per the contracts, promises, or plans that they’ve made, but those four are still children. It would be narrow-minded of us to scold them for such a minor thing.

Besides... Although this was the result of their rebellious nature, I was also in the wrong for not explaining my intentions and plans to them properly.

I did intend on doing so, but Hokuto simply refused to hear me out.

Wataru: Do excuse that child of mine.

Eichi: It’s quite alright. You three were the ones who taught me that it's fine for me to distribute the weight that I carry on my shoulders; as I said, we’ll fill in the gaps that they've left...

And we’ll begin with the aspect in which they were lacking: revitalizing the local economy.

We’ll achieve a goal they didn’t by bringing vibrancy and energy to ES’ locality. At this Flower Fest— or, rather, Tempest Fest.

Yuzuru: Indeed. However, the name “Tempest” is slightly inapt, as today’s weather is actually quite pleasant.

This was originally intended to be an event wherein we allowed the wind to scatter about a flurry of flower petals and enjoyed that sight despite the storm, correct?

Eichi: Yes, it’s rather decadent, isn’t it? But I’m not opposed to that sort of thing — concepts such as the aesthetics of destruction do exist, after all.

Tori: Fufu. How’d it turn out this way again...? I think last Sunday, when we gathered on Eichi Day, we all discussed what we wanted to do...

But we ended up suggesting, like, a hundred things each, right?

Eichi: That's right. Merely thinking about the things I wanted to do, like breaking Keito’s glasses just for fun, was already quite the enjoyable activity.

Yuzuru: I doubt you'll find it “fun” when you get murdered as a consequence.

Wataru: I’ll handle the funeral myself, so die in peace, Eichi...! (Imitating Keito)

Tori: Fufu. And that’s when I said that I wanted us four to do a Flower Fest together.

Everyone got suuuper excited about that idea—

Eichi: Ahaha. Then Anzu-chan, who was forced to rest with me again, began saying that she'd draft something in her proposal book for us.

Tori: Yup, yup! She just started drawing designs right then and there, asking us for our opinions and stuff.

Yuzuru: Indeed. Coincidentally, the acquaintance that I told you all about was at a loss regarding what to do with their remaining inventory...

So we made a formal deal with them and purchased a substantial number of flowers for this event.

They surely would have refused if I had tried to give them funds upfront; this convenient pretext was a great help.

With this, they’ll likely have enough to help their business recover. I feel as though the guilt that I was shouldering has somewhat dissipated.

Wataru: Fufu. Polishing up a plan together was incredibly fun...

Indeed, the most enjoyable part of going on trips is the planning stage: “Let’s go here, let’s do this, let’s buy that, eat that”—

Amazing! When I think about whether Hokuto-kun and Trickstar as a whole are constantly relishing in this type of joy, I can’t help but become slightly jealous ♪

Eichi: Yeah. That’s exactly why I can’t allow Trickstar to monopolize her...

No— that’s why we need to rework the system: to ensure that all idols have the opportunity to attain such happiness.

People die, and empires fall. However, mountains and rivers remain, and so will structures.

Tori: Ahaha. I used to think that idols just made plans and got super fired up together all the time...

I mean, that’s what it was always like in Yumenosaki, and you see pretty much the same thing in TV shows and manga.

Eichi: But in reality, everything is decided behind the closed doors of meeting rooms or executive gatherings — the offices of the upper management. If we could choose, though, the fun way would be far more preferable.

And it's our goal to make the dreams or ideals that everyone seeks into reality.

Wataru: Yes, let us become exactly like the idols that people see in their dreams.

Or rather, let us lay down the soil for dreams to grow and become real — ubiquitous, even.

Eichi: Exactly. Let us establish new rules, participate in those tedious and troublesome meetings, and produce document after document.

We'll gaze unfazed at the path of hard work that lies before us, allowing all the fruits of our efforts to accumulate one by one...

In the hopes that we'll all be able to become the idols that we wish to be.

And moreover, in the hopes that everyone — idols, fans, staff — will be able to see their dreams and ideals become reality. Yes, we’ll construct a utopia wherein we can all rejoice at our lives with smiles on our faces. [1]

We’ve only just begun our journey, though, so we’ve still quite the ways to go.

Tori: Don’t worry, Eichi-sama. If anyone gets tired and collapses, I'll carry them on my back!

Yuzuru: Fufu. And I shall lead the way for my Young Master to ensure that his path is clear.

Wataru: On that note, in order to give everyone a moment of solace and joy, please allow this clown to enact a brief performance for you!

Wataru: Let us sing and dance, moving forward with smiles on our faces! Behooold, just like this...☆

Eichi: W-Woah. A bit impatient, aren’t you, Wataru? The curtains have yet to rise, you know?

Wataru: That isn’t true at all! From the very moment we were born into this world, the play known as life had already begun!

I shan’t allow you to leave the stage of this loveable play, this play wherein the entire world is our audience...☆

We have to enjoy it with a smile!

Now, Eichi, your expression is still rather stiff, you know~? Please take me as an example — I’m this close to you, after all!

Besides, the weather today is so fair! It'd be such a waste to keep that gloomy look on your face. Wouldn't you agree?

Eichi: Ahaha... Oh dear, you’re the very embodiment of a spring storm.

It’s actually quite fun to be swayed around like this every once in a while.

(Ahh, this is undeniably a waste of my time. Our official performance has yet to begin, and the more I dance, the less stamina I’ll have for later...)

(I won’t gain anything from this — on the contrary, I’ll only end up with losses considering what’s coming next.)

(But I simply can’t let go of this hand, almost as if it were magically bound to mine.)

(It’s what I needed, and it’s ever so dear to me. I wish this moment could last forever... this dream-like moment of peace and happiness.)

Tori: Ahaha. Geez, what’re you two up to now...? My family gets along way too well ♪

Yuzuru: That they do. I’m glad that they’re enjoying themselves, but the audience has already begun to file in.

Perhaps it would be alright for us to simply skip the rehearsal and allow them to continue dancing without preparation. I can certainly adapt to this.

Wataru: That would be quite the interesting development!

But I'd be a failure of an actor if I presented the audience with an imperfect performance! Let’s practise properly for a while, shall we? We still have a bit of time on our hands, after all ♪

Eichi: ...Yeah. Our time is limited, and we’ll never have enough. But that’s exactly why we should treasure each and every second.

Wataru: You’re exactly right. I'm afraid we must, so let us work seriously — we’re adults now, after all, and this isn’t a holiday.

Eichi: Yes. I don’t wish for us to part, but I suppose I’ll have to let go of your hand for now.

I’ll set you free, Wataru.

Wataru: Oho? Was I the one who was entrapped?

Eichi: We’ve trapped each other within the midst of this tempest. And here we’ll remain until the moment God gives us a standing ovation, mercifully telling us our roles have been fulfilled—

Wataru: Indeed! Let us sing and dance on this stage — let us enjoy life to its fullest!

We’ll resound our ensemble for all eternity as we make our sparkling dreams a reality!

Ahh! Today is another wonderful, ordinary day! Amazing...☆

Notes:

1. The word Eichi uses for "rejoice" is the verb-ified form of the word for "glorious" in the event title.
Location: Tempest Stage

<Two weeks later>

Eichi: The wind is blowing quite gently today.

I wonder if the spring storm has finally settled down. Although the lives of flowers are but fleeting, if they didn’t scatter and spread about— no, if they bloomed forever, we would be deprived of joyous moments such as this one.

The colors and scents of flowers attract both bees and humans — indeed, all beings capable of love — and, thus, new life is created.

Like so, the cycle of life spins on, and our planet continues to be dyed in multitudinous colors.

Ah, how beautiful this world is... And how full of joy and excitement life is.

Wataru: Put those thoughts aside for now and look at this, Eichi~!

Our costumes are usually made by professional designers, but I do say that it's quite lovely to wear clothes sewn by Anzu-san from time to time!

It is as if a new layer of context has been added to our — fine’s — history. I can feel the warmth of love embedded within each and every string that she has woven…☆

Yes, I could almost forget the sad truth that this was simply the result of how we weren’t able to spend too much on costumes due to our limited budget!

Eichi: …Things are getting more interesting by the second. You’re ruining the atmosphere on purpose, aren’t you? That would mean that you’re currently putting on a performance — do you seek applause? Perhaps I should indulge you.

Wataru: Fufufu, do forgive me! This is simply my nature!

Infusing a bit of corruption or distortion to that which is purely somber or beautiful is the very quintessence of comedy! It is the long-cherished aspiration of a jester such as I!

It would be rather boring for something to be wholly pure! Let us cherish the thrill that accompanies an ambush on the brain’s blind spot! Fair is foul, and foul is fair...☆

Eichi: Quoting Shakespeare again, are you?

In order to avoid a recurrence of the blunders that were made last year, this performance was named Tempest Fest, and there are a reasonable amount of references to that titular, awe-inspiring play scattered about within its composition—

However, it is essentially an adaptation of last year’s Flower Fest, the event wherein idols adorned the town with innumerable flowers and entertained the people who came to see them.

It’s a light-hearted, joyous, “normal performance” with no deeper meaning behind it.

And because this is a “normal performance,” we shan’t reach an ending like the one that unfolded within that play, The Tempest.

Tori: Fufu. Of course, to everyone in the world watching, this is just “the usual performance”.

Flower Fest is a tradition that’s done every year. This year’s celebration just happens to have a name and program that’re kinda different from usual, but everything else is pretty much the same.

Yuzuru: Indeed, it is a seasonal tradition. However, to us, this stage that we stand upon is surely something special.

Eichi: That’s right. Last year’s Flower Fest was the match wherein the current fine made its debut.

It was our introduction to the world. First impressions are always vividly and strikingly emblazoned onto people’s memories...

But I was hospitalized around this time last year. Consequently, I wasn't able to join the performance that was supposed to be so memorable.

All I was able to do was simply gaze at you all from the window of my hospital room, gritting my teeth in frustration the entire time.

However, things are different this year. As you can see, I’m wearing the same uniform as you all; I’m standing on this very stage with you.

Perhaps this development can be ascribed to the day of rest — Eichi Day — that you forcefully established. Aside from its name, it’s quite the wonderful arrangement.

I offer you all my gratitude. I’m well-rested now, both physically and mentally. My body feels light, and it isn’t hard to breathe at all. Truly, I almost feel like I could fly.

Humans really do need breaks — I’ve learnt this fact firsthand, so I shan’t forget it again,

Wataru: Every now and then, you give me the impression that you’re no more than a baby who has learnt difficult words.

Eichi: You’re very persistent about that… If humans are told the same thing three times, we’ll end up believing it, you know.

Do you want me to consider myself a baby and start getting spoilt by Mama Yuzuru?

Yuzuru: Allow me to remind you that I am no one’s “Mama.” Although I do have three children whom I must constantly take care of.

Eichi: …You certainly have it tough, don’t you, Mama?

Yuzuru: If you call me that one more time, I will consider it an act of hostility and accordingly proceed to attack.

…In any case, there's no need for you to thank us, Eichi-sama. We're the same, are we not? Expressions of gratitude are always pleasant to hear, but…

The best reward I could ever ask for is simply a reality wherein everyone can live out their days with smiles on their faces.

Fufu, I ended up saying a rather plain, unremarkable sort of thing.

Perhaps I should learn from Hibiki-sama’s example and study up on humor more?

Wataru: In that case, I’d like for you to refrain from referring to me as “Hibiki-sama” as if we were mere strangers; please call me “Onii-chan” or even “Darling” instead!

With great delight, I’ll diligently teach you everything you need to know ♪

Yuzuru: On second thought, I shall pass.

Eichi: Oh? Has the manzai routine started already?

Tori: Fufu, you guys are starting to sound like Trickstar! But no more of that stuff — we’ve gotta hurry up and rehearse properly. We didn’t have enough lessons this time, right?

Eichi: Yes, you’re correct. That, too, is a consequence of Trickstar misinterpreting my request and coming up with that farce known as “BIGBANG”—

But well, I suppose that spontaneity of theirs has its merits.

There are gaps that they cannot fill on their own, and that is where we must step in.

We’re in the same agency now, after all — they’re part of our family. We must complement each other and make up for each others' weaknesses.

In fact, you three are the ones who determinedly taught me that we don’t live in this world alone.

Wataru: Indeed. Although BIGBANG was very entertaining to watch, Trickstar wasn’t able to revitalize the local economy as we had expected them to — their plan was lacking in that aspect.

Eichi: Yup. Spending large sums of money in our locality, thus making it circulate there, would stimulate the economy. And that would in turn cause local businesses to believe that getting involved with ES would benefit them.

Like so, we would allay the worries and dissatisfactions that the people held towards this “Idol’s Utopia” that suddenly sprouted from the ground, and we would lay down the foundation necessary for flowers to bloom.

Tori: We're family, so there's no way we could just turn a blind eye to you, Eichi-sama. You’re giving it your all, pushing your body to the limits every single day.

We can’t let you do that. You're free to resent us or get angry at us, but we’re gonna make you rest — even if we have to force you to.

'Cause, at this rate, you’re definitely gonna pass away. Both you and Anzu are.

I’m studying business management ‘cause I’m gonna inherit the household, so I know that you’re seriously gonna die of overwork if you keep this up.

You may not have noticed this yourself, but you've been working like an employee at an exploitative company.

Plus, you've been saying really gloomy, dark things, it feels like your field of vision narrows now and then, you stagger for no apparent reason, and you burst out laughing at weird times.

Yuzuru: Well, you’ve always tended to do that last one. Nevertheless, you truly are the textbook example of overwork.

As a butler, I’ve studied medicine to the point that I have a rather good grasp on it, so do believe me when I say this.

Tori: Yup. He's a super butler who can do absolutely everything! You know Yuzuru — there’s no way he’d misdiagnose you, right?

It doesn’t matter if you end up hating us, or if you think we’ve betrayed you. We’re gonna make you rest no matter what, Eichi-sama... Even if only for the shortest of moments.

Wataru: There’s no need to worry about that particular matter; Eichi told me something along the lines of, “I wouldn’t mind being betrayed by you.”

Yuzuru: Indeed. And he also said that we of fine are his comrades, friends, and family, didn’t he?

Eichi: You’re certainly holding what I’ve said against me. However, I’m afraid that I can’t do you the favor of giving up so easily.

I understand your reasoning, and am furthermore overjoyed at the sentiment. However I have my position to consider...

Or, rather, my dream.

I’m going to elevate idols to the pinnacle of culture, and I’ve dedicated ES along with all the hard work I’ve done — my very life itself — to that purpose.

I’ve decided how I want to spend my days, and that decision is sacrosanct. It is not up for discussion, not even to my family.

Tori: Yeah, I get that. I’m not a kid anymore, y'know. Actually, how long do you plan on acting like a little kid, Eichi-sama?

Yuzuru: Indeed. Are you not aware that only children of elementary school age and younger are allowed to believe that they are the rulers of the world?

Eichi: …?

Wataru: Ah, how impertinent of me! Perhaps your eyes have still been closed, Eichi.

Oh? But, no— that couldn't possibly be true, could it? Those two eyes of yours are surely taking in everything perfectly, aren’t they?

If the wind is too strong for you to keep them open, I shall become your windbreak! Nooow, are you able to see? Just what is it that lies before you?

Eichi: …I see all of you.

Tori: Yup, that’s right. We’re here. This world has so many people other than you in it, Eichi-sama.

If you died or became unable to move, the world would still keep on spinning just like it always has.

Of course, you’re the loveliest, coolest, strongest Top Idol in the world, but—

Wataru: What you can do as an idol, I can as well.

Whether it be singing, dancing, or anything at all — when it comes to being an idol, I believe my skills are comparable to yours. You’ve held such an evaluation of me for a while now, correct?

Eichi: You’re not merely comparable to me; you’ve surpassed me in quite a few spheres.

Tori: Ahaha. And you can count on me when it comes to administration or human resources management or stuff like that! I’m learning it all so I can be a business manager.

It might be a little hard for me now, but I’m gonna work super hard and learn a whole buncha stuff.

Yuzuru: And as the Young Master is doing that, I shall support him.

Coincidentally, I am something of a professional when it comes to war and scheming, along with similarly dubious enterprises—

Or at the very least, I have received training in such fields; I should be fully capable of serving as your substitute, Eichi-sama.

Eichi: And you’re telling me to let you all act as my proxies and carelessly sleep the days away while you toil in my stead?

Wataru: Not at all. We simply want you to share a portion of your burdens with us.

It wouldn't be fair to keep them all to yourself! Such things are a family’s communal property.

Eichi: “Family,” you say… To be perfectly honest, that word doesn’t have the most positive image to me…

Wataru: Then let us reform that image together. You needn’t do anything alone any longer; please allow us to stay by your side.

Allow us to take the time — no matter how brief it may be — to rest together once a week.

You could spend such holidays simply doing the things you love; it would be perfectly acceptable for you to laze the day away, or to enjoy your hobbies.

Similarly, it would also be fine for you to do some practise or training, and if work is what you enjoy the most, then…

We shall accompany you and joyfully labor together. Anything can become a source of happiness if it is shared with others, after all.

Like so, let us create one day a week that we can spend together peacefully.

Even God has a day of rest. Do you have any issues with this, from a religious, legal or ethical perspective?

Or do you think of our words and feelings as traps set by an evil demon to tempt you into depravity? If so, you truly must be exhausted ♪

Eichi: ……

…It’s perfect. There are no links in the chain I can pick at.

There’s compensation for the time you take away from me, there’s a way to deal with each and any problem that may arise — even from a logical perspective, you all are right.

Bringing Anzu-chan here was also a smart move. I’ve told her to take a break time and time again, and even created a rule to ensure she does so.

“No matter what anyone tells you, you still incessantly work,” hm…? If you point out how hypocritical I’m being, there’s absolutely nothing I can say in response.

Wataru: How very wonderful! I would expect nothing less from our beloved Producer-san — why, she’s able to lead idols onto the right path simply by sleeping!

Tori: You’re being too loud! Geez. Look, now Anzu’s woken up, and she looks super lost~

Eichi: Fufu. It’s alright for you to continue resting, Anzu-chan.

You’ve been on an incredibly tough journey. Now that you’ve arrived at your destination, you certainly won’t be punished for taking momentary repose.

I’ll also rest a bit, myself. Yes, I’ll do so once a week with you all.

If that’s a sin, I’ll go and complain to God myself. I’ll point out that even he does the same.

Tori: Ahaha. Anzu looks all confused, like, “What’s going on…?”

Eichi: Fufu. We’re just discussing everyday, unremarkable things. [1]

Notes:

1. At the end of his second Idol Story (which takes place in the same location), Eichi uses the same word for “unremarkable” here.
Location: Garden

Wataru: Fufufu, “Eichi Day!” Eichi~ Day~! Naturally, we aren’t referring to the abbreviation of Hard Disk! Amazing✰ [1]

Eichi: I don’t have it in me to laugh at such a feeble attempt of a pun right now. Hmm, could you briefly explain what exactly this is all about?

Wataru: Of course. You see, we live in such a stressful society, and lately you’ve been overworking yourself, racing headlong towards your demise. So for your sake — no, for our own sakes, as well…

We’ve created a holiday just for us: Eichi Day!

Eichi: We don’t have the authority to just create holidays as we like, though…

Oh? I just noticed that Anzu-chan’s here as well?

She’s sleeping soundly under a tree for some reason. Is she mimicking Ritsu-kun?

Wataru: Fufufu. Just like you, Anzu-san also won’t rest unless she’s forced to.

Despite the fact that weekly holidays for Producers have been properly established, it seems that she’s been working herself to the bone even on days she should be off.

So we took this opportunity to abduct her… Or, well, Butler-san did.

Yuzuru: Yes, I’m the culprit. However, I did so out of love, so please consider this an extenuating circumstance ♪

Eichi: ...You’re in an oddly good mood, too, Yuzuru. Even though you’ve been gloomy up until just a few days ago.

Yuzuru: Indeed. That is due to Hibiki-sama kindly counselling me on my predicament, and also because I’ve managed to sort out my feelings.

Eichi: ...Is that so? Well, that’s good, I think I should say.

Yuzuru: Yes. Actually, Hibiki-sama encouraged me to do something…

After receiving permission from the Master and Mistress, I proposed to my acquaintance that they could be hired as the gardener of the estate if they wished.

At the very least, I wanted to atone for the fact that they lost their shop at ES’ hands.

However, they only said, “Shut up! I want to be a florist, not a gardener! I don’t need your pity!” and cursed at me in response.

And so, our conversation developed into a brawl.

Eichi: A brawl...

Yuzuru: Indeed. I haven't felt that thrilled in quite a while.

The truth is, it is an affront for the winner to pity the loser and try to give them things…

I realized that after I was beaten black and blue, and they scornfully extended a hand to me, asking, “Can you stand?”

My acquaintance will surely face many hardships from now on.

However, they said that they would prefer that to forcing themselves to do something they don’t actually want to — they may have just been putting on a front, but they smiled.

I then received a bit of a lecture: “That’s why there’s no need for you to feel guilty. Who the hell do you think you are? I don’t need your meddling…”

And they didn’t stop there; they even encouraged me, saying, “You needa work hard too, alright?”

Fufu. Those who have risen to high-ranking positions are liable to forget this, but humans truly are strong creatures.

From the very beginning, it looks like there was no need for me to worry or fret.

However, no matter how strong we may be, we'll only destroy ourselves if we ceaselessly overwork.

We're not machines, after all. No, even machines — anything that has form — is surely the same.

Eichi: That’s why we should rest and take a breather every now and then? Is that the reason why you did all of this?

Wataru: Essentially, that is correct. Did I not tell you to leave everything to me…? This is the solution I have come up with.

Eichi: Hmm. This is quite cliché by your standards, Wataru.

Wataru: Oh my, how scathing!

However, the truth is always as simple as a mathematical equation — if you believe that to be insipid, then we can simply give it a poetic sugar coating!

Eichi. Even if only for one day in the week, please give your time to me.

Eichi: Is that a proposal?

Wataru: Fufu. If it were, I would request the entirety of your life.

It appears that I have used a faulty expression, so allow me to rephrase: please entrust a portion of your life to us.

Eichi: ……

Tori: Um. I feel like we’ve just been saying the same thing over and over, but I’ll say it as many times as it takes…

You have a frail constitution, Eichi-sama, so I understand how precious each and every second and minute must be to you.

If you could weigh the value a single day is worth to you, it'd probably be heavier than the Earth.

Yuzuru: However, that is precisely why we are requesting this from you.

Please bestow upon us even a portion of the kingdom known as your life, the kingdom you rule and oversee.

Eichi: …Fufu. You sounded like Wataru just then, Yuzuru.

Yuzuru: Even I have been somewhat influenced by him.

This may be quite obvious, but we've spent so many eventful days together — so much time together. We've walked forward, side by side...

As the unit fine. As comrades, as friends, and as family.

You all were so kind as to treat me in such a way, and now I wish to reciprocate. I'd very much like to return the favor.

1. In Japanese, the letter H is pronounced as “eichi” so Eichi Day would kinda sound like HD. As Eichi notes in the next line, though, this is a stretch.

Eichi: ……

...Can I open my eyes yet, Wataru?

Wataru: Nope~ Not just yet~! Please bear with me until the demon counts up to a hundred — a person living in this modern age has to abide by laws! [1]

Eichi: Who’s the demon here…?

When I close my eyes, I can almost believe that we’re the only two people in the world, so by process of elimination, it would have to be me.

Wataru: Oh, but it could be me; I was once rumored to be a monster and ostracized like a demon, you know!

Ladies and gentlemen, ‘tis I, the infamous Hibiki Wataru of the Five Oddballs...☆

Eichi: You’re in an exceptionally good mood. That’s delightful in itself, but I’m a bit perplexed because I don’t know what’s going on.

I want to understand everything about you — from the top of your head to the very tips of your toenails — but I only continue to feel ashamed at my own inability to do so.

Wataru: Fufufu. Come now, there's no need to behave like a sulking child. You're far too adorable, you know?

Eichi: Well, I practically am a child, with the way I’m being piggybacked blindfolded like this. Idols should always be showing the world the ideal version of themselves...

But I must look like quite the idiotic commander.

Wataru: Is that not an incredibly apt title for you?

After all, you’re the leader who established this strange microcosm of foolish idols, and you still unabashedly call yourself an “Emperor” in modern day Japan!

Eichi: It’s not like I’m a dictator, pulling all the strings from the top, though.

ES — and this modern society — is far too expansive for some novice who's only just graduated high school to be able to control it.

Wataru: Indeed. Not being able to control nor understand a single human being is only natural, even for those who've dedicated their whole lives to doing so!

That is the limitation of human beings, and precisely why life is so interesting! It is why — ahhh — this world is overflowing with so much radiance...✩

Eichi: ……

Wataru: Oh? You’ve stopped replying. I personally find it quite shocking to not be responded to, you know?

Eichi: ...I’ve more or less grasped the situation, is all.

Although you’ve deprived me of my sense of vision, so long as I live, I remain capable of deduction. This sweet smell is… hmm?

Wataru. Do you really think of me as a child? Is that why you're trying to raise my spirits by giving me confections?

Wataru: Not at all. I know you dislike sugary things, so I’ve prepared something far better!

Please open your eyes, Eichi!

No... Your Majesty, my dearest, voracious Emperor! This pitiful clown shall offer up to you a world that is exactly to your liking!

Eichi: …Um?

Tori: Oh! They’re here, they’re here!

Geez, what took you guys so long~? My hair's gonna get all messy if you make me wait in the middle of this storm!

How much time do you think I spend every morning trying to look as cute I can be?

Yuzuru: Fufu. Actually, I'm primarily one who arranges your hair every morning. But I have no qualms with that; every minute I spend doing so is incredibly meaningful ♪

Eichi: My, it looks like everyone’s here.

But what exactly is this gathering for? You’ve even laid out plastic sheets and spread out all these snacks and drinks—

Tori: Huh? Have you not told Eichi-sama anything?

Wataru: Of course not. If I did, he would've probably tried to run away.

Eichi: I wouldn’t run away… so long as you properly explained the reasoning behind your actions and I found them to be sensible.

As far as I can tell, it looks like everyone’s come to have a fun, happy flower viewing party.

There are plenty of sakura petals dancing about due to how strong the wind is here, and it is Sunday. However, I simply don’t have time to spare.

Yuzuru: Fufu. You seem to be a bit sullen.

You're quite egocentric, after all. You can’t be used to not having your way and getting pushed around by others.

Eichi: You say that like you understand how I feel, Yuzuru.

Yuzuru: I do. Because I, too, am a member of fine.

Tori: What an exemplary answer! Pat, pat~ My butler's always the best ♪

Eichi: I beg to differ… I thought it'd be better to refrain from broaching this topic, so I didn’t bring it up, but— why are you being held in Yuzuru’s arms, Tori?

If anything, he’s more of a mother than a butler.

Yuzuru: In jest, I would ask, “Are those roles not similar?”

For me, giving boundless affection to, spoiling, and taking care of the Young Master is how I fulfill my butler-ly desires.

Eichi: Butler-ly desires...

Yuzuru: Indeed. Today is a holiday, so I am dispelling my stress by doing what I enjoy.

Such actions would be considered assault if permission was not given beforehand, but the Young Master has given me his consent today.

Tori: Yup. I’m all tired out from working hard every day; this is fine once in a while. It’s also part of a master’s duties to give his servants breaks and rewards!

Today’s a holiday, “Eichi Day." I guess I can loosen up and allow this.

Eichi: “Eichi Day”?

1. In Japan, tag is called 鬼ごっこ (onigokko, lit. “playing as demons” or something along those lines) and the person who's “it” is called the demon.
Location: Reception Room

Wataru: If I’m not mistaken, we were told about how…

One of Butler-san's colleagues from that institution has now retired and is managing a flower shop in ES’ vicinity.

Eichi: Yeah. We discussed something along those lines.

Yuzuru probably studied how to be a bodyguard, so I can more or less understand how he went from soldier to butler…

But I don’t feel like there’s any connection between being a soldier and a florist.

Wataru: There can be. This is mere conjecture, but perhaps that person’s heart was once soothed by a flower they caught sight of on the battlefield.

Additionally, we cannot assert that they don’t have any interest in things that can heal people, such as flowers, simply because they had a violent occupation.

After all, even those who are kind are capable of killing. In fact, some people can even kill out of kindness.

Eichi: That’s true. At the same time, people can also kill without any ill intent. Like a prison guard carrying out the death penalty...

But I understand why there are those who wish that the culprit acted out of malice when someone dear to them is killed.

Wataru: Yes. If there is malice, one can both understand why such a thing happened and take revenge for it. No one wishes to die like a mere insect, and no one wants to be killed.

We're all human, with hearts beating in our chests. That is precisely why we cannot accept irrational deaths.

Eichi: However, as an administrator — and as an “Emperor” — there are times when I have to cause exactly that.

At this very moment, I'm killing things as if they were insects. Without any ill intent, I’m stealing away and trampling all over that which people hold dear.

I’m deciding that it's necessary to do so and processing people’s love into mere numbers.

From the moment I became a ruler, I could no longer expect to have a life of ordinary happiness...

Who said something like that? Was it Caesar?

Wataru: Yes. Although that line was omitted from Shakespeare’s play. [1]

Eichi: Well, he was an Englishman. At the time, he probably couldn’t have portrayed Caesar, who was the first person to invade England, in a favorable light.

Wataru: Who knows? I do love Shakespeare, but I am not the man himself.

Actors surely consider him to be a magnificent, almost God-like writer precisely because there is so much room for interpretation in his works.

Eichi: Fufu. Of what Shakespeare has written, I like the monologue-like lines that adorn the conclusion of the last work attributed to him —  the lines that sound like he, himself, is speaking to the audience.

Wataru: Oh, are you referring to ''The Tempest''? Yes, that would resonate with you. [2]

Eichi: Yeah. Although I’m still not allowed to speak such lines myself.

Right now, I’m in the midst of the dream that I had envisioned.

I created a utopia for idols, ES, and am devoting absolutely all of my energy to maintaining, managing and administering it for as long as I can.

Of course, as a newly emerging force, it's still very subject to outside pressures and criticisms, and there are many companies that view it with hostility.

That’s exactly why I have to make them yield, win them over, and use them to my advantage—

Day and night, a secret battle is unfolding. An economic war is being fought right now, at this very moment.

And in the midst of this veritable storm, the flower shop that Yuzuru’s acquaintance is managing is on the brink of collapse.

Wataru: Yes, that sums up the situation. We, as ES, have been using every trick in the book to try and expand our territory, and as a result…

That store is getting swept away by a strong current, and is about to capsize in this storm.

Even though that person has finally thrown away their blood-stained weapons and distanced themselves from violence to begin raising flowers...

Even though they're trying to make precious things — things that heal people and make love grow in their hearts — bloom brilliantly…

We're ruthlessly, unreasonably crushing their dream, which should ideally be supported, for the sake of our own.

Eichi: You don’t need to try and lighten my burden by saying things like “our” and “we". It actually makes me feel insulted in a way, which isn’t very pleasant.

I am the one who's crushing everything. It’s me — it’s my dream that’s destroying so many others.

I thought I had understood that. Fully aware of that, fully accepting that, I walked my path while trampling over the sinless flowers that grew on it, after all. [3]

Wataru: Yes. We understand that, and have at least chosen to walk together with you.

Butler-san is smart and rational — no, he too is a member of fine — so he must feel the same way.

However, even though he could grasp and accept the logic of it, there must have been something he still couldn’t quite accept.

The heart always takes longer to process things than the mind does, and yet it holds more power.

Butler-san must be perplexed because he cannot tear out the feelings in his chest that have now sprouted.

That is the reason why he has been so absentminded lately.

Unfortunately, it appears that he wasn’t lovesick; I cannot poke fun at him, but…

Eichi. We have walked this path for much longer than he has, so we can lead him towards the destination.

If he comes to a halt in his journey, we can carry him forward, and if he stumbles, we can extend a hand to him. No— please allow me to do so, as a senior in our unit.

Do be at ease. You surely know this already, but I am exceptionally skilled at such things.

Notes:

1. Wataru and Eichi are referring to Julius Ceasar: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julius_Caesar_(play)

2. Now they're talking about The Tempest. Like Eichi says earlier, the main character, Prospero, is often seen to be a representation of Shakespeare himself. As you might guess, this event story references this play quite often, with lots of storm imagery and the chapter titles being "Spring Storm" and "Storm's Vigor"; the "vigor" here can also be translated as "fairy/spirit," which is an allusion to Ariel, a character in the play.

3. Interestingly enough, a popular interpretation of The Tempest's message is that "the powerful must show mercy" (https://www.sparknotes.com/shakespeare/tempest/) which is very relevant to what Eichi and Wataru discuss here. This may be why Wataru says it "would resonate with [Eichi]" earlier.

<That night>

Eichi: ……

Wataru: Eichi… are you working overtime today, as well?

Eichi: Hello there, Wataru. I thought you might come.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t think up an interesting way to react, so… My apologies, but I’m afraid that I can only give you this plain reaction.

Wataru: There’s no need to apologize. You perfectly predict, anticipate and understand my every action — that alone completely satisfies me.

Honestly, I surprise myself with how satisfied I am.

Fufufu. “The wind has been growing even stronger, so he couldn’t possibly jump in from the window"...

Is what I thought you'd assume, but it seems as though I was too naïve.

Eichi: Well, there was plenty of foreshadowing this time. You were far too overt when you declared yourself a being that can conquer even the strongest of winds. Unfortunately, I saw right through your trick.

Wataru: You certainly did. I shall reflect on this and make the most of your advice for next time.

Eichi: I’m already looking forward to it. I’ll also make sure to have little enough composure so that I'm properly surprised.

In any case, would you be so kind as to advise me on something?

Wataru: Of course; ask me absolutely anything. On my end, I've tried to prepare the words I believe you may need.

Eichi. Your heart is still troubled by what Butler-san spoke to us about earlier today, isn’t it?

Eichi: I’m not troubled, per se.

No, I was just thinking about how I overcame a similar conflict in the past… I thought I had come to an understanding within myself, but…

I’m currently reflecting on what I should do.

Basically, I've come up with a number of methods, so I’m not that worried; I don't feel like I’m confused, lost in the dark, but…

I can’t decide which method is right. Or rather, I feel like no matter what I choose, I’ll be missing something crucial.

Even though any one of them would be fine, none of them are perfect. Ah, I’m sorry for phrasing this in such a vague way.

Wataru: No, not at all. Please be at ease, for I understand what you’re trying to convey.

Eichi: Yeah. Because you can understand everything, can’t you, Wataru?

You’re like an angel — the personification of truth itself. I almost want to just leave all my decisions to you... I wonder if it'd be alright for me to depend on other people like that.

Wataru: I wouldn't mind at all. Or rather, I’ve come here to propose exactly that.

Won’t you entrust this matter to me?

Eichi: To you?

Wataru: Yes. I’ve been getting persistently nagged about how I’m spending too much time with my theater troupe lately… mainly by you, Eichi.

Therefore, I want to demonstrate the depth of my devotion and love to you.

And — this may be rude of me to say, but — you have no choice but to rely on other people right now, correct?

Although you love living as an idol more than anything else, you're currently being forced to put that aside so you can administrate ES.

This is surely a critical time, so you’re being fully occupied with various tasks; you have far too many irons in the fire.

Normally, anyone who found themselves in such a situation would choose to rely on others...

So please rely on me now. You can trust me, can't you?

Eichi: Of course. I trust you more than anyone in this world — more than I trust myself. I wouldn’t even mind being betrayed, so long as it were by you.

Even if you did the cruelest things to me, I wouldn't mind at all. I wonder if this is what society calls "love"?

Wataru: Fufufu. You truly sound like a child sometimes.

In any case, although it would be a pleasure to exchange sweet nothings with you endlessly…

It would be a terrible crime indeed to steal away more of your time — I shall voice my thoughts with brevity so we may sort out this situation posthaste.

Eichi: Oh? That’s a shame. I'd be more than happy to devote my time to you.

Wataru: Why, thank you, Eichi. That is the highest form of praise an entertainer could ever hope to receive.

Now, then. Let us settle the issue that Butler-san has brought to our attention earlier today. It seems that, when he was young, he was put in quite a unique institution—

Eichi: Yes. He’s very evasive about it because he doesn’t want Tori to know, but…

When Yuzuru was a child, he was put in the custody of an institution that was more or less a private military company’s base.

Wataru: Ah, yes. Taking into account the words we’ve exchanged so far, I suspected something along those lines.

Eichi: Alright. I won’t go into it too deeply, then, and conceal all the details.

That company is under the direct control of the Himemiya family, so I don’t have access to any classified information, such as its exact address, anyways.

Wataru: Fufufu. It’s no wonder...

It certainly isn’t normal to have such agility, or such a lack of openings, at Butler-san’s age. I suspected that he received some special type of training.

He has the attributes of a soldier, after all.

War is a sorrowful deed that steals away smiles and love from people, but so long as humans continue to be imperfect, it's surely unavoidable.

I’m an actor, so I don’t involve myself in tragedies that occur off stage… I can’t say I understand completely, but I'm able to at least imagine his experiences.

At that institution, Butler-san was treated as an instructor and made to direct the new recruits — something like that, correct?

However, he's skillful at replying evasively, so it’s quite laborious to try and guess the meaning buried within his words.

Eichi: Yes, his mask is also incredibly thick. But you both probably consider such masks to be your own self, your pride, and your very soul.

Wataru: Yes. The mask itself is me.

If Butler-san is wearing the mask of “Butler-san” right now…

That is exactly what he considers to be the definition of himself — what he wishes to show to other people.

The soldier part of himself hides behind that mask, and that must be why it is difficult for him to speak of it.

Even he, himself, is unable to see the face from his past that lies underneath when he looks in a mirror.

That is why, unable to arrive at an answer, he tilts his neck and continues to be at a loss.

I appreciate your constant faithfulness and adroitness, but in the end it’s undeniably lonely to have you merely wait on me.

Yuzuru: My… I am truly unworthy of such words.

Wataru: Fufufu, I think it would be best to take what Eichi has just said as candid advice towards all of us, and, above all, towards ourselves.

There would be no meaning to walking the same path together if we didn't strive to draw closer to one another — if we didn't endeavor to understand each other.

Just like all the other lovable idols, we should also take off our armor and pull off our masks, clashing together as bare flesh and blood.

Eichi: Fufu, that’s right. I feel like we’ve been influenced by everyone else.

If we wanted to simply live mindlessly, there would be no need to understand the hearts of others, and it would be sufficient to treat everyone as nothing more than a statistic.

However, the person I am now seems to have grown tired of a life filled with only calculations.

Yuzuru: Fufu. This is a mere jest, but you must be saying such words because you have only been doing mathematical computations lately.

You've been working very hard to put ES on track — I know you must consequently be missing the warmth of human touch.

Eichi: You’re right. This is the path I chose for myself, but I’m honestly starting to get a little fed up.

I’ve been completely immersed in administrative work, so I haven’t really been able to do any idol activities.

On that matter, I'd like to apologize to you all.

I’ve finally been released from the miniature garden that is school, and I've also purchased ES, the home of my dreams — I was supposed to be free, but…

You simply can’t have your way in life.

Tori: Mm… I know that there’s no point in sulking, but… I’m super sad that we haven’t been able to do any lives together as fine lately.

Eichi-sama has to do important work, though, so it’s just not possible — I’m not a kid anymore, so I understand that.

Wataru: Fufufu. Allow me to behave clownishly and return the conversation to its original topic. Well, then, Butler-san, what is the reason you have been so melancholic?

The stage is a paradise where every joy exists. As the days pass, are you feeling weary because you’ve distanced yourself from it?

Life itself is a stage, a place of self-expression where you must dance rapturously until the curtain call!

Although it appears that you’ve killed your true self, and are very skilled at devoting yourself to your role—

Not even you can return to being a clay doll now that you’ve tasted the honeyed flavor of a sweet apple! [1]

Yuzuru: Hmm. If I were to self-analyze, I would say that isn't the direct cause of my troubles. However, it may be one of the reasons my feelings cannot quite clear up.

I wonder if the reason I feel downhearted is because I haven’t been given a place to dispel my stress and sorrows.

It is a delight to push yourself into a mould and carry out the role assigned to you, but…

Before I knew it, I, too, seem to have become an idol — no, a human — just like the rest of you. [2]

Eichi: What're you saying? Both in name and in substance, you are and always have been a member of the top idol unit fine.

Yuzuru: Fufu. Yes, constantly being distant and reserved is a flaw of mine.

I was raised like that, and have trained myself to be that way, so it is difficult not to do so, but… [3]

If it is desired of me to expose my true emotions, my heart... I shall.

I’m sure that is a butler’s— no, an idol’s way of life.

Notes:

1. I think Wataru is mixing metaphors here; he’s probably referring to the myth of creation from the Bible and to the Babylonian myth where humans were created from clay and the body of a god. Basically, he’s saying that Yuzuru can’t go back to his old “lifeless” self now that he's known something more.

2. This is probably a call back to The Flag's Honor*Flower Festival, Angel 3, where Yuzuru and Wataru talk about their masks and true faces.

3. The word Yuzuru uses here is for the training/breaking of animals. I think maybe this word in particular was used to show how little regard he held for his true feelings, how he just saw them as something to be controlled and tamed. Another fun bit of trivia is the first kanji in Yuzuru’s last name, 伏す, can also mean “to hide oneself."

<April, on the way to ES>

Eichi: The wind is strong today, isn’t it, Wataru?

It seems that a spring storm is approaching. I’ll pray that these flowers called idols, which have blossomed on the soil that is ES, won’t be blown and scattered away.

Wataru: More importantly, please look, Eichi~! Look, look at my long hair: even this strong wind cannot dishevel it!

Fufufu, isn’t it an absolute mystery? There’s a secret trick to this, you see; in this world ruled by the laws of physics, there is an answer to every question—

Eichi: ……

Wataru: Now, feast your eyes! Watch how I’m able to sense the direction and strength of the wind and, at a speed too great to perceive, move my head against it!

This is a countermeasure I learnt from Hokuto’s mother at our theater venue. As actors, we must be prepared for when a production requires the use of fans, you see~?

“Now that you mention it, that’s true” — are you now thinking something along those lines?!

Eichi: ...Yeah, I am. You know, it feels like we’ve gotten closer, so I am happy that you’re showing me your true self — that you're no longer putting on a front…

But I want you to make me experience those things called “emotions” just a little more.

Wataru: But of course! Entrust this task to me! Your wish is my command, dearest!

Fufufu. Acting really has been becoming increasingly enjoyable lately. I never stop thinking up new techniques I could possibly employ.

Ah, Amazing! This world is truly overflowing with love and surprises!

Eichi: What are you saying, after all this time? My world is always full of such things, simply because you’re by my side.

Eichi: Yes, what is it? If you’re alright with me, I’ll listen to you anytime.

But if it’s okay with you, and if you think this will be a long discussion, I’d like to have it indoors. I’m not so weak as to collapse from being shaken around by the wind, but this strong gust is really getting to my back.

Unlike a certain someone, I don’t have enough muscle to blow away the wind.

Tori: ...That idiot has been getting even weirder lately — did something good happen to him?

Eichi: I wonder? Perhaps he’s like this simply because it’s spring… Well, if you want me to answer seriously, Wataru just finds the activities he’s been doing with his theater troupe to be unbearably interesting.

I have faith that he definitely won’t stop working as an idol…

But I really am a little jealous. I want to teach him more about how truly enjoyable being an idol is.

Tori: Fufu. You know, Eichi-sama... I bet that idiot Long Locks already feels like he's found the place where he can enjoy himself the most — the place where he belongs — just because you're here with him.

Anyways, this is something that’s kiiinda hard to say when Yuzuru’s around, so could I just tell you about it here real quick? It’s no big deal, but...

Wataru: Hmm, did you have a disagreement or such with Butler-san?

Tori: We’re not fighting or anything, but… How should I say this~? Lately, Yuzuru’s been a little weird.

He spaces out a lot, and at the mansion he dropped and broke a plate, which is super unlike him.

I keep spending all my time with him, so I thought maybe my jealous little sister set up a trap or something, but…

It looks like Yuzuru’s hand really did just slip.

Yuzuru’s always perfect! He doesn’t normally make those kinds of mistakes, so I’m worried about him.

But whenever I try to ask him if anything’s bothering him, all he does is give me vague answers.

Eichi: Hmm, that’s certainly odd.

Tori: Yeah… Lately, everyone in fine has been working separately, and we haven’t really gotten together much—

But you both work with Yuzuru pretty often, so I was thinking that maybe you'd know something about why he's been acting strangely.

That's why I lied and told him I was gonna practise with the tennis club today, then I just dashed over here.

This is Yuzuru we’re talking about, so he’ll probably realize I fibbed any moment now and come here to scold me; if you can think of anything, please tell me as quickly as you can.

Eichi: Hmm… All I’ve been doing lately is isolating myself to do paperwork — I need to ensure ES, which has only just been established, doesn’t stumble on its first step forward, after all.

I haven’t spoken to Yuzuru much, so I’m not sure why he’s behaving that way.

It would be most efficient to ask him directly, but I think he’s been trained to withstand even torture… Would he confess?

Wataru: Ahh, the answer has dawned upon me! This must be lovesickness!

Eichi: ...Huh?

Tori: Yuzuru’s… in love? No way— I mean, is that even possible?

Wataru: But of course! Although Butler-san is prone to speaking and behaving like a killing machine, in the end, he, too, is human.

He surely must have fallen in love before. Demons have set many traps in this world to tempt people onto the path of romance, after all.

Eichi: Hmm… Actually, upon thinking about the situation without any preconceptions, this does seem like lovesickness.

Love drives people mad, and it can even completely change them.

But I’ve never been in love before, so I can’t really think of a way to resolve such a problem.

Wataru: What? Are you seriously saying that? Eichi?

Yuzuru: Young Master~! Why did you lie to me?! Have you become obsessed with yet another questionable manga or game?!

As I have said countless times before, you need to finish your studies and your work properly before you—

Oh? What are you all doing, gathering like this? Are you secretly plotting something again?

Tori: (Hmm…? Yuzuru’s… in love? I really don’t think that’s true, though…?)

Eichi: Hello there, Anzu-chan.

Oh, there’s no need to fret. It’s still well before the appointed time.

I simply arrived here earlier than planned due to my previous job getting called off.

Good grief… It was unavoidable, but I do wish they’d sort out their scheduling a little more. Those who work in this industry…

Truly don’t have time to waste on sudden cancellations.

In the previous era, I’m sure things could have been settled easily — water under the bridge. But things are different now; we live in the age of expediency and accuracy. Wouldn’t you agree, Anzu-chan?

Oh, pardon me. It’s not exactly an easy question to answer.

Perhaps my influx in work has worn my patience down. I didn’t mean to start complaining.

On that note, shall we begin discussing the issue at hand?

I can’t exactly waste your time after waxing poetic on how precious of a resource it is.

Regarding your request… To sum it up, ES has made the decision that we won’t be able to accept it.

Ah, you look rather dejected. Truthfully, I’d rather support you, but it’d be no easy task to go against what ES as a whole has decided.

At least allow me to reassure you that this decision was made with your best interests in mind.

Hm? You wish to know why your proposal was rejected?

You’re terribly overworked at the moment, aren’t you? If you were to add yet another iron to the fire, I find it difficult to imagine that you’d be able to properly fulfill all your existing commitments.

This isn’t a matter of how capable you are, it’s simply a realistic consideration of how much time you have. I doubt you’d be able to finish all your tasks to a satisfying standard. And, if that were to happen, you’d suffer the most from it.

Yes, I had a feeling that you’d insist you’d be alright. But I’m afraid that the risks of this decision won’t disappear with a mere word or two.

I do hate to disappoint you, but we had to choose the less hazardous option.

This is just my personal opinion, but I’d like to remind you that there’s no need to do everything all at once.

I’m certain that there will be plenty more chances in the future; a more opportune time is sure to come.

Hm… I see. There’s a reason that you wish to do this now.

Nevertheless, ES’s decision can’t be overruled so easily.

Your only option is to come up with a solution that will allow you to convince the executives whilst ensuring the rest of your work is properly carried out.

If you do so, it’s possible that things will take a turn for the better.

Oh, there’s no need to thank me.

You’ve supported me so faithfully ever since my days at Yumenosaki; it vexes me that I’m unable to grant your wishes.

Yes, exactly. Please think it over again.

If you do manage to win us over… I promise that I’ll offer you my assistance. And I say that not in the way that children do when they play around, but as a verbal contract.

Fufu. I see that you’ve been filled with a sudden burst of motivation.

I can’t say that I understand why you’re so insistent on doing this now, but if that’s what you desire, I’ll do my best to support your efforts.

Ah, that’s right — it’s about time for you to go. I believe you have a TV show recording to oversee, correct?

The organizers of that program are rather fastidious about punctuality, so it’d be best for you to leave a little early.

See you soon, Anzu-chan.

…Hm. I hadn’t realized that she was so serious about this. Judging from her reaction, it’s likely that she’ll try again.

Goodness. I simply can’t fathom why women are so drawn to the idea of marriage.

Leo:
No, no! I couldn’t stand releasing an incomplete work of art into the world! We’re deeefinitely using this version of the script — no ifs, ands or buts! Grrrr!

In that case, we’ll have Anzu-san fill in the extra role for us.

Tomoya: …Huh?

Keito:
What nonsense do you think you’re spouting? Look, Anzu’s rather perplexed as well.

Wataru: I don’t believe there are any issues with this plan. In terms of her lines and songs, I’ll support her with my vocal mimicry skills should she falter.

All you need to do is move in synchrony with me atop the stage. Will you allow me to request this of you?

But, yeah, you’re right. I have a feeling this performance wouldn’t have been a success without Hibiki-senpai.

Now, why are you thanking me? …You realized which direction you wanted to take the Personalized Outfit due to this performance?

Ah, so you drew up a design right after the show ended. Do allow me to take a look…

Hoho, I see you used clowns as the central motif… It's very eye-catching. Did my form — the vision of me performing as an entertainer atop the stage — leave such a strong impression on you?

Amazing! The ideal I seek is to become an entertainer who brings happiness and laughter to people. Thank you very much for designing an ensemble that aligns with my wishes☆

And I assure you that this isn’t flattery — not in the slightest. I, too, believed that such a design would be perfect for me. As proof of that statement…

Could I have you flip over the message card that came with the bouquet I just gave you?

What a truly wonderful coincidence for us to have drawn the same image. Perhaps we have some sort of telepathic connection?

Fufufu. Your eyes have gone wide; you appear to be quite shocked. It looks like my surprise was a great success.

Naturally, I didn’t secretly peek at your design at all. I’m sure you’re aware of the fact that I was almost constantly on stage during the performance.

And I had been sending off the audience members until only just recently; I didn’t have the time to draw something like this.

“In that case, when did you draw it,” you ask? I’m afraid I can’t tell you that. It wouldn’t be very interesting for me to reveal all the secrets behind my tricks so easily, now would it?

There are times when secrets should be left that way, unexposed.

If you simply must know the answer, why don’t you continue to gather material on me? Please observe me closely until my Personalized Outfit is fully completed.

And, thus, let us work together to create the image of myself reflected in your eyes — the image that depicts me exactly as I am…♪

I told her that I wanted her to express the Hibiki Wataru reflected in her eyes through her design…

How do I look to her — do you not consider that to be a fascinating question? Am I an idol, singing and dancing atop a stage? A magician who bewilders his audience?

Wataru: That isn’t the case at all — please take a look at this.

Tori: Eeeh, what is this!?

Wataru: What, you ask? Why, it is a photo of Eichi and I. We took it just last weekend on Eichi Day.

Tori: Thanks, I can see that! Oi, Long Locks, I can’t believe you shared a private meal with Eichi-sama! That’s way too unfair!

What does this even mean, though? You can only eat proper meals when you’re with Eichi-sama?

Wataru: I wonder? If you’d like to deepen your knowledge about my eating habits, why don’t you stick by my side for the entire day?

Tori: No way! You’re just gonna toy with me, aren’t you?

Anzu, why’re you taking down notes so passionately? There’s nothing you can glean from this conversation that’ll help you with the Personalized Outfit, you know.

Wataru: Not at all! She may be able to gain more from this exchange than you would expect. We idols are beings who turn our very faces into commercial products; perhaps she could design me a coat or such that would have your face printed all over it, Himegimi…☆

Tori: That’s an awful design idea! Anzu, don’t you dare write that down~!

1. Wataru uses an idiom that literally means "to hold flowers in both of your hands" so he at least has a good reason to throw out flowers here.
Location: Reception Room

Eichi: Hello, there. Welcome, Producer-chan.

I'm the administrative committee president of ES and the leader of fine, Tenshouin Eichi.

However, I'd appreciate it if you would simply refer to me as "President."

Just kidding. I wanted to try introducing myself as if it was our first time meeting each other — what do you think? Did I seem distinguished?

No need to hold back; I want you to express what's in your heart.

Fufu. Lately, I’ve been getting many more chances to greet people whom I've never met before, so I wanted to practise a bit.

They're people from the fields of administration or politics, things like that, so it can't be helped.

"Men are your walls, men are your castles" — I don't mean to borrow Keito's favorite phrase, but in reality, people are this society's most fundamental unit.[1]

Society as a whole is only able to revolve if we grasp the connections, the flow — indeed, everything —between one person and another. If gears move as they are expected to, there's no need to oil them so they move more smoothly.

However, I was born with a weak constitution, so I was never very passionate about learning societal customs. Lately, I've been trying to re-learn all of my etiquette from zero.

I've more or less understood the rules of high society, but in ES I come in contact with colleagues, suppliers, fans, unrelated passersby...

I'm not so naive to think that I can behave the same way towards such a variety of people without any problems arising.

And I don't have a personal history that allows me to expect that I’ll be liked by others for no reason.

Yes, I’m troubled by how I should act towards older people who still have the seniority system soaked into their bones — especially the certain suppliers I need to behave modestly towards.

I’m almost impressed that they managed to survive in this harsh, capitalistic society with such attitudes… If I was asked to express my innermost thoughts, that is how I would respond.

Perhaps this is due to my appearance or my age, but no matter what I do, I’m always made light of as a frail youngster.

If I’m still looked down upon as a child, I can’t make deals properly — I can’t do business.

In order to continue building the sparkling, golden age of idols, I need to vigorously continue working.

Of course, if I flatter people too much they’ll only end up disliking me. However, on the other hand, it isn’t a wise decision for me to don the mantle of the prestigious Tenshouin zaibatsu.

Nothing will progress by causing others to atrophy. Engraving fear into them, making them hold malice towards me, will only cause bad influences to spring up in the future.

Even I’ve learnt that much now.

That’s why I wish to find the perfect arrangement to face everyone I come in contact with.

I have assets and power, but those alone aren’t sufficient to make everything work smoothly.

I want to be able to absolutely control each and every gear, each and every human.

Yes, that’s the real issue at hand. That’s why I called you here, Producer-chan.

You look like a plain child who could be found anywhere, but for some reason, you’re loved by all.

I want to learn from your way of life. This isn’t a joke, you see, so please hear me out without laughing.

I hold you in very high regard — to the same or perhaps an even greater extent than the revolutionaries this age wished for — Trickstar.

Fufu. Although CosPro’s Saegusa-kun is a specialist at controlling people’s hearts…

He’s my business rival. I don’t want to owe him a favor, and there’s the possibility that he might indoctrinate me with lies.

As long as this earth continues to spin, as long as humanity continues to exist, strife will not end.

Even now, as I’m speaking here, I’m in the midst of a battle. I don’t want to give my opponent an opening they can take advantage of.

ES has only just been established, so it’s in a very delicate position at the moment.

That’s why I need you. You're respected by and can freely come and go from every prominent agency in ES.
You’re a special existence to the key people who changed the ages…

Yes, I need you, a singularity in the idol industry, who is trying to become its most important figure.
I want to hear your opinion. Because in this age, that is what is considered “right” and “true.”

Oh, you’re making quite the suspecting face. How adorable… You should be a little more aware of your position.

Well, that kind of modesty and feigning of innocence is also one of your charms, though.

Modesty that’s taken too far will actually cause animosity, especially when it’s a superior that behaves obsequiously and lowers their head — such actions will only cause their colleagues and underlings to feel uneasy.

You should be careful of that. I’ve given you quite a lot of authority, and I’m repeating the words I said earlier, but…

You’re much more amazing than you think you are, and you’re becoming quite an important figure.

Well, I gave you such a position precisely because I didn’t think that you’d be the type of person who would arrogantly change like that so suddenly.

You’re surrounded by the cunning and the sly here, so please take care that your innocent mentality isn’t taken advantage of.

I’m quite worried… Of course, I’m your ally, so do feel free to speak to me if anything ever troubles you.

I’ll handle it as best as I can, as discreetly as I can. But, naturally, I’ll be receiving something in exchange.

...Yup. Alright, thank you. I’ve more or less understood.

Fufu. Actually, asking you to come and teach me ways to deliver my self-introduction was a mere pretext.

As the times move forward, the environment also changes, and I want to see what kind of existence you’ll become with my own two eyes.

I will refrain from making a conclusion for now, but your attitude has largely satisfied me. I’m truly happy that you’re able to remain the good child you are.

From here on out and into the future… I want you to make stars sparkle and flowers bloom while remaining just the way you are — without deteriorating into spite as I did in the past.

Of course, I cannot compel you into doing so, but I’m at least able to pray for such an outcome.

A blissful future: a kingdom of, by, and for idols that will last a millennium and more—

Shall we build it together, you and I? I would be heartened and incredibly grateful if you could see the same dream that I do.

I’ll continue placing my hopes in you, so please don’t disappoint me… Producer-chan ♪

(He was basically the main character of the story — the war — that was unfolding… There was no way he would’ve been able to just sit around, happily sipping tea.)

(But Ecchan still came here pretty often.)

(This Tea Club that we made just ‘cause our interests coincided, just so we could take care of a trivial little problem—)

(And the time we spent together, chatting about random things as we drank tea—)

(I wonder if Ecchan was able to breathe easy ‘cause of them, even if just for a little while… I wonder if he felt at peace, if he treasured all those hours?)

(…Uuu. I’m getting cold. Well, duh, it is winter already. I kinda want some tea to warm me up, but it’s a pain to brew on my own.)

(If Ecchan were here, he’d make me some tea that’d be to my liking without me even needing to ask. But he pushed himself too much, so he’s in the hospital right now.)

(He fulfilled his mission… He’s all burnt out — is he gonna die, just like this?)

(No. I don’t wanna be left all alone again.)

(Anija’s no good, and Knights are no good. They got crushed, and the light they once shone with is fading away.)

(I’d expected that would happen. I knew that would happen, but I didn’t do anything to stop it… I couldn’t do anything.)

(Maa-kun could’ve refused if he wanted to… But he ended up joining the Student Council officially, so he’s taking care of all the post-war processes and stuff now.)

(It looks like he’s got way too much work on his hands; he’d definitely have no time to spend with me, huh?)

(Ahh, I’m the only one. Once again, I’m the only one… who survived completely unscathed, shamelessly letting people kinder and stronger than me protect me.)

(……)

Eichi: Ritsu-kun.

You’ll have some tea with me, won’t you? I can’t seem to find my personal cup, though — do you remember where I put it…?

Ritsu: …?! Ecchan! Wha— why’re you here? Aren’t you supposed to be in the hospital?

Eichi: Fufu, I snuck out. I don’t have the time to idle about in bed without a care in the world right now, you see.

This is a critically important period. Everything is going to begin at this very moment.

The dream that I’ve harbored for so long is about to come true at the expense of so many sacrifices…

Which is why I have to work harder. At the very least, I have to fulfill all my responsibilities—

I could die a thousand times over and it still wouldn’t be enough, you see.

Ritsu: Ecchan. Don’t move. Your complexion looks awful…

You’re such an idiot. You snuck out of your hospital room? I heard that you were in the ICU for ages — aren’t you so sick, you’d basically die in the blink of an eye if you let your guard down?

Eichi: There’s nothing to worry about. It’s alright. I’m not dead yet, so it’s fine.

Ritsu: (...This is no use. He’s clearly fading in and out of consciousness; he’s not thinking straight.)

(I bet he’s all woozy ‘cause he got shot up with a bunch of anesthetics. He just crawled over here out of his sense of responsibility.)

(Why’d he go that far? Why’s he putting his life on the line like this…?)

(I don’t get it, Ecchan.)

Eichi: ……

Ritsu: …Ecchan?

Eichi: Ah, sorry… I lost consciousness for a second there.

Ritsu: You’re seriously going to die at this rate. Don’t push yourself, Ecchan. Here… You can hold onto me, so stop moving. I’m contacting the hospital right now.

Eichi: Ah… Yes, that’s a natural response. I suppose I’m out of time. How frustrating.

I’m truly frustrated, Ritsu-kun. Do you understand how I’m feeling right now?

Ritsu: I don’t. I’m just someone you drank tea with, and I definitely didn’t try and get too deeply involved with you.

Eichi: Ah, but that was pleasant in its own way.

…Hey, Ritsu-kun. I’m quite grateful to you, you know. Within the brutal days of revolution that unfolded within this school, I only ever felt at ease when I spent time at the Tea Club.

It was my solace, my salvation, and the source of my happiness.

So. Thank you, Ritsu-kun.

Ritsu: Stop it — you sound like you’re trying to say your last words or something.

…I contacted the hospital, and they’re sending over an ambulance right now. It’ll be here in a few minutes. You have to hold on until then no matter what, Ecchan.

I’d feel a little lonely if you died, you know.

Eichi: Just a little? Well, even so, love is love. And I can continue living on… for even a mere spoonful of “that”.

Ritsu-kun. I don’t want to make you feel lonely, so I’ll return to the hospital and undergo all my treatments properly. I’ll recuperate soon and return here.

Until then, I want you to protect the Tea Club: the one and only place I could be at peace…

If Yumenosaki Academy became a hell on earth where even “that” ceased to exist, I’d have no desire to come back.

So I implore you. I’ll bow my head for the first time in my life and request this of you, Ritsu-kun.

Ritsu: Mm… Well, I’ll do it if I feel like it.

I “promise”. So don’t worry, and take care of your health.

Rest up and come back soon. And then you’ve gotta make me some more of your yummy tea, just like you always do.

It’s a pain to brew it on my own, you know.

Eichi: Yeah. It’s a promise. Cross my heart and hope to die—

……

Ritsu: …Ecchan? Did you pass out?

Woah! Your complexion’s so awful, I’d barely be able to tell you apart from a corpse!

A-Ambulance! Here, he’s over here! You’ve gotta hurry up!

There’s a patient you need to attend to here — this stupid idiot who wrecked his mind and his body for the sake of his dream…!
